FIRE DOORS
Fire doors assemblies are a critical element of your building’s passive fire protection measures and are a requirement in buildings that are commercial, multi-occupied or residential.
We rely on them to work correctly in the event of a fire by providing crucial protection within a building such as escape routes (stairs and corridors) and places of relative safety, and in separating different fire hazards in a building.
To save lives, they must work correctly, and there are some simple checks you can undertake depending on whether you are a building owner, or manager, a landlord or occupier. Fire resistant doors are the best defense when it comes to preventing fire and smoke from spreading from room to room within buildings or in high-risk areas.
All fire doors must be regularly inspected, maintained and upgraded where required, just as any other fire safety system – these are often overlooked, many doors in fire risk assessments often fail due to age, condition, and overuse.

FIRE DOORS SAVE LIVES
All fire doors are fire rated. Some are FD30 (providing 30-minute protection), FD60 (60-minute protection) or higher.
A fire door ensures that should a fire break out, it can be contained in a “compartment”. This keeps the fire and smoke trapped for a defined period, allowing time for people to escape and will enable the fire to be extinguished with minimal smoke spread within the building.
Building owners, employers, and operators have a responsibility under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (FSO) to ensure that employees and users of their properties are safe.
